Our Objective

The ancestors of children in the remote Sierra Madre mountains in Northern Mexico escaped from Spanish conquest by settling in the far reaches of the Copper Canyon, an area larger than the Grand Canyon in the United States. In this remote region, families must pay for fees, uniforms, and supplies in middle schools (grades 7-9) and high schools (grades 10-12). Most children leave school after the sixth grade. Now Canyon Scholars offers sponsors a way to help these proud, independent people preserve their culture and educate their young people by paying their expenses so they can pursue their educational goals.
